Join Leif Trana, Economic Minister at the Norwegian Embassy, to discuss the Arctic. This is part of the 2017 Colloquium speaker series.
Before joining the Embassy of Norway as the minister counsellor for economic affairs in August 2014, Leif Trana served as the director of the section for organizational development in the Ministry of Foreign Affairs in Oslo. In this position, he particularly focused on the planning processes in the Ministry and how to align the resources used at various embassies with Norwegian interests in the particular country or organization. Before that, he was the deputy director in the same section. He spent five years working on WTO matters, focusing on the agricultural and NAMA negotiations in the Doha Development Agenda (DDA). Trana is a career foreign service officer who has served in Riyadh and Washington. He received his M.A. in economics from the University of Oslo.
He delivered a talk on the climate and policy challenges facing the Arctic last semester, describing the stereotype of the Arctic, including ice, snow, cold, and polar bears.
