Professor launches Institute for Regulation and Ethics in London
On September 11, Catherine A. Rogers, Penn State School of International Affairs affiliate professor, helped introduce the Queen Mary the Institute for Regulation and Ethics to the world with the inaugural conference 'The Future of Ethics in International Arbitration: The arguments for and against further regulation of arbitration counsel' in London. Speakers from legal practice and academia, armed with common law and civil law perspectives, discussed some of the measures currently in place to regulate the ethical conduct of counsel in international arbitration and argued both in favor and against the imposition of further regulation.
Rogers stated, the conference was “designed, consistent with the purpose of the Institute, not only to take stock of [recent international developments in ethics regulation], but to consider what they might mean for the future of international arbitration and what else needs to be done."
More information about the conference was reported in the Global Arbitration Review and LexisNexis Dispute Resolution.
Rogers is an SIA affiliate professor from Penn State Law and co-director of Institute for Regulation and Ethics, and is regularly engaged in capacity-building activities to promote arbitration and the rule of law in developing and emerging economies, and is working to found Arbitrator Intelligence, a non-profit informational resource to increase accuracy, equal access to information and accountability in the arbitrator selection process. Her forthcoming book, Ethics in International Arbitration, will be published in September 2014 by Oxford University Press.
